Feeding a pregnant mare in 2026: why good forage alone is no longer necessarily sufficient

A pregnant mare carries not only a foal, but the future. Especially in the last three months of gestation – during which 60–70% of growth occurs – and during lactation, her need for energy, protein, and minerals increases significantly. At the same time, we observe that modern roughage often contains less crude protein and shows greater fluctuations in mineral balance. Feeding more concentrates is not always the solution. Targeted support is essential to ensure condition, resistance, and optimal development of the foal.
