Spring grass and colic
When spring has started again That's of course wonderful because then the horses can go back to the pasture!
However, this does mean a major change for your horse's digestive system. After months of dry, fiber-rich hay, your horse is now consuming young, sugary grass. Despite increasing pasture access, there is a significant risk of overeating, which can lead to diarrhea, colic, or laminitis.
Does your horse exhibit symptoms of overeating, such as restless behavior, stamping , or do you hear intestinal sounds and is it reaching for its stomach with its mouth? Then we recommend administering Duval Polyc & Duval Carfol orally. Polyc and Carfol ensure adequate gas elimination, calming and relieving cramps in the stomach and intestines. If you detect the above symptoms early and treat them with these products, you can often prevent acute colic.
If your horse shows symptoms of direct colic and starts rolling, sweating, and stamping, always contact your veterinarian immediately.
Prevention is, of course, better than cure, so gradually increase turnout and pay attention to starchy feed (starch is converted into sugars). Is your horse prone to stomach and intestinal problems? Then start giving it stomach and intestinal support supplements like Duval Multidigestiv 10 days before turning out. This supplement neutralizes stomach acid, promotes normal intestinal movement, regulates sugar absorption, and protects the stomach and intestines.
